Signification of the Nine Planets of the Horoscope: Ketu

Ketu:

South Node or Ketu like Rahu and unlike other planets does not have a physical shape or existence; it is an astronomical point in the sky based on intricate calculation of Vedic Mathematics. In Vedic Astrology it is comparable to a planet and is always opposite to Rahu and forever in retrograde motion. It is the main significator of Moksha, the final salvation from the cycle of life and death. It stimulates people towards spiritualism and enlightenment, leading the person to break away from the confine of worldly desires.

Ketu takes almost 18 years to complete its cycle of the zodiac and it stays in each sign for about 1 ½ years. It is considered that it co-rules with Jupiter the sign of Pisces, which falls in the 12th house of the natural zodiac. It is friendly with Mercury, Venus, Saturn and Rahu. It’s neutral to Jupiter, whereas Sun, Moon and Mars are its enemies. Ketu is influential and positive if placed in Pisces, its place of exaltation or a friendly sign and it is negative when debilitated in the sign of Virgo.

An auspicious and powerful Ketu in a horoscope signifies spiritual consciousness, righteousness, detachment and wisdom. It further rules over spiritual healers, non-profit organizations, orphanages, old age homes and meditation centers.

Ketu will give varied results in accordance with the ascendant of a natal chart. Results will be determined according to the sign and house position where it is placed and the strength of the depositor of that house. It is very powerful in the 3rd, 6th, 11th and 12th house and it is considered weak when it is in the 1st, 2nd and the 8th house.
