Signification of the Twelve Houses of the Horoscope: 2nd House
2nd House:
Moving forward from the first house we now come to the second house. The second house is known as the House of Wealth or Dhan Bhav. However, it doesn’t end there. It is first of the three Artha Houses that denote material prosperity or lack of it. Both Venus and Jupiter are the planets that are its Karkas or one can say natural significators of this house.
We all know how important it is for everyone to have basic means of subsistence. Without some material possession, life will not be possible for anyone of us on earth. No wonder, the Vedic Rishis recognized the importance of this fact and produced the very treatise to worship Mahalakshmi.
The ability to earn is not all that is seen here. The family wealth, inheritance, possession of valuable article, gains and losses, savings, bank accounts, bank lockers, stocks and bonds, are all connected with the second house.
Education, speech, verbal communication, language skills, knowledge of the scriptures, spiritual understanding is also covered by the second house. Early childhood, upbringing, family affluence, relationship with mother’s side of the family is also judged by analyzing this house. The in-laws, family of in-laws too are part of this house. The eating habits and the kind of food preferences one makes are embedded in the second house mystery.
In case of a second marriage it is this house that throws light not only on the second marriage but also deals with various different aspects of the partner’s life including his/her longevity.
Most importantly this house also deals with death and it thus called Marka.
