Signification of the Twelve Houses of the Horoscope: 8th House

8th House

Although, the 8th house, along with 6th and 12th houses, is a malefic or a Dusht Sthan, nonetheless in Vedic Jyotish it is the second Moksha house, besides the fourth. In Sanskrit it is called the Ayu Bhav. To some extent it reveals the past life karmas. It governs area of longevity and sudden events. It has a direct relationship with one’s lifespan and the nature of death. This house indicates whether the person will undergo a natural death or will the end be caused by unnatural means such as accident, drowning, fire, suicide, assignation, murder, strangulation, etc. and whether it will be sudden, slow, painful or violent. Mars is the Karka or the natural significator of this house.

It throws light on wealth gained suddenly due to stroke of good luck like profit from shares and debentures, inheritance and insurance. The nature and position of the house lord and the planets placed here decide whether the results would be favorable or not.

The reproductive organs, sexual drive, prowess and related problems, chronic diseases, physical and mental deformities, addictions, lack of mental peace, secret weaknesses and tendencies, loss of loved ones, son of an elder sister and a life partner’s financial status are the other significant areas of life linked to the eighth house.

Most importantly it is a mystical house connected with one’s transformation and the potential to undergo such a spiritual growth. A person’s tendency towards the world of occult is judged by the Vedic Scholars from here itself. It is my observation that great sages have a powerful eighth house. Since lessons altering the course of life are required to erase pending past life debts that are essential to move forward towards attainment of Moksha therefore, this house can make a person withdraw from the material world.
